Attendance

The Department of Education guidance document on attendance states that:

Central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is an assumption so widely understood that it is insufficiently stated – pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.

The government expects parents to perform their legal duty by ensuring their children of compulsory school age who are registered at school attend regularly and that all pupils are punctual to their lessons.

Please be reminded that it is your legal duty to ensure your child attends school on time and for the entire school year. A penalty may be issued if you fail to adhere to this legal duty.

Wherever possible all appointments should be made outside of the school day. If your child has a medical appointment in the school day then you must complete the appointments leave form and bring this into the office with a copy of the appointment letter or card if available in advance of the appointment.

Other than for medical appointments children should not be leaving school during the school day.

If you have a leave of absence matter that you would like to discuss in person, please contact me via the school office. If you have an appointment request please complete the appointment leave form and return it to the school office via your child.

Thank you for your co-operation,
