Mawira Primary School

Our latest newsletters have reached our friends at Mawira Primary School in Kokech, Kenya! Mawira Primary is a welcoming day school educating around 280 children in the Nyanza region, run with the support of a local religious organisation.

This simple exchange of newsletters may seem small, but it matters deeply as a bridge between our pupils and children on the other side of the world. Through this connection, we’re not just sharing words on a page; we’re sharing ideas, friendship and understanding across cultures.

❤️ How Our Shared Values Come Alive

This link is a beautiful reflection of our core school values:

  • Unity – We are part of something bigger than ourselves. Connecting with Mawira Primary shows how school communities around the world can work together and learn from one another.

  • Trust – By exchanging newsletters and learning about each other, we build trust between our pupils and theirs, recognising that kindness and curiosity flourish when we listen and share.

  • Kindness – Reaching out with a message of friendship and interest demonstrates genuine care for others, no matter where they live.

  • Curiosity – Our pupils will have the chance to wonder about life in Kenya, ask questions and expand their understanding of different environments and ways of learning.

  • Courage – It takes courage to look beyond familiar surroundings and engage with another culture — and our children are doing just that through this link.

  • Respect – Respect underpins every positive relationship, and this connection teaches us to value different cultures, experiences and perspectives.

🌐 Connecting to Our British Values

At the same time, our link with Mawira Primary enriches our understanding of British Values in a global context:

  • Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Different Cultures: By learning about life at Mawira, our pupils deepen their appreciation for the diversity of the world and recognise the importance of respecting others’ traditions and experiences. This reflects one of the key British Values promoted in UK schools - understanding and valuing cultural differences.

  • Preparation for Life in a Wider World: Country borders and cultures may differ, but our shared interest in learning and friendship helps pupils see themselves as global citizens -ready to contribute positively to both their own community and the wider world.

We hope everyone enjoys seeing the photo of our newsletters arriving in Kenya, and that this link continues to inspire meaningful learning and joyful connections between our pupils and their peers at Mawira Primary School.
