Who's Who 2023-24

Mrs G Hillier - Headteacher, Designated Safeguarding Lead

I am delighted to be the Headteacher of Widmer End and feel proud to be leading such a wonderful community school. My early career was in recruitment and event management, before embarking on my PGCE and later a Masters in Education.
I have been teaching for 15 years and am passionate about teaching and learning and giving all children the best start in life. Widmer End gives the children many opportunities to thrive and find their passion and everything we do is underpinned by our strong values  and ethos. My hobbies are walking my dog, yoga and running. I really enjoy taking running club every week with the children.

Mrs V Marshall - Deputy Headteacher, Year 5 Teacher & Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

I joined the team here at Widmer End in September 2022 as Deputy Headteacher and Year 3 teacher. I am thrilled to be a part of such a warm and welcoming school family. I am lucky enough to have been teaching for 25 years and have been able to work and gain experience in three different schools in three separate boroughs across the country. I love every subject we teach in primary school but my passion is for everything English! I have been a Lead Literacy teacher and now work as a county KS2 writing moderator, supporting colleagues with their writing judgements across Buckinghamshire. I have worked as a mentor for the last ten years and enjoy my role in supporting colleagues early on in their career as well as those with a little more experience! I have always had a love of music; I play the piano and am the first to volunteer to lead school choirs, taking them to exciting places such as the Royal Albert Hall and the O2 arena to perform in front of thousands, as well as local events and places such as residential homes to entertain the elderly. I have a husband and two teenage girls who keep me very busy at home, as well as my little Welsh terrier, Teddy, who I love taking for walks in the countryside as often as I can fit them in! I am so excited to be part of the Widmer End team and feel privileged to be here to support and guide the children in their journey towards becoming successful and responsible citizens when they leave us at the end of Year 6.

Miss K Allen - Pastoral Lead, Attendance Officer, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

My background is working with Children aged 4-19yrs with complex ASD, emotional, social and behaviours. I joined Widmer End as a TA in April 2021 and moved into my new role as Pastoral Lead, DDSL and Attendance officer in September 2022 and I haven’t looked back. I love my job as hard as it can be!

I believe all children’s behaviours are a form of communication and I strive to support the children who find school life tricky by providing a safe place and to be a person who understands them. ‘You can’t and shouldn’t bash a square peg into a round hole’ is my motto! But with encouragement, understanding, guidance, support and love, sometimes the square peg can make their own place to fit. Difference is only to be championed.

I love Makaton and run a lunchtime club to share my love through music and songs….my other hobbies are being outside as much as possible, ballet and going to the theatre. I have 2 boys of my own, 17yr old and 11 year old who both keep me on my toes!

The children in school are who I am here for and they are always my number one priority….they never fail to put a smile on my face and make me laugh every day.

Mrs L Ross-Wood - SENDCo

I joined the team as SENDCo here at Widmer End in September 2023 and have been warmly welcomed by both children and staff.

I have been a qualified primary school teacher for nineteen years and have spent the last five years working at a small village school in Maidenhead where I grew a special interest in supporting children with special educational needs.

I live in Buckinghamshire, in Burnham and enjoy a very scenic journey to school each day. I live with my husband and two children who are twelve and ten and our pets - Baxter, a black miniature poodle and Willow and Snowy who are our very friendly outdoor rabbits.

In my free time, I enjoy exercise - especially strength and conditioning fitness. I use kettlebells to get a good workout and attend a CrossFit gym close to where I live. Feeling physically strong makes me feel capable and supports my positive mental health too. As a family, we enjoy being fairly active and adventurous -  skiing, camping, cycling and plenty of dog walks.

I'm really excited to work here and especially enjoy getting out on the playground and into classrooms where I am always greeted with friendly smiles.

Mrs K Hipperson - SENDCo (Maternity Leave)

I began my teaching career in Norwich before moving to Buckinghamshire in 2013 and for 4 years prior to joining Widmer End, I worked in the Local Authority SEN Team. In early 2021, I made the decision to move my career back to the classroom.

I joined the teaching team at Widmer End in Autumn 2021, covering PPA for teachers across EYFS, KS1 and LKS2 and have never looked back! I thoroughly enjoy working within school and enjoy all the vibrant interactions with the children as they explore and learn new things.

I am a qualified SENCO and on the days I am not at school, I manage a SEND Information, Advice and Support Service. At home, I have two daughters and a large lazy black dog named Kipper. I like to go swimming, practice yoga and spend as much time as I can outdoors

Mr R Jones - Caretaker

Hi, I'm Robin, Widmer End's Caretaker. My aim is to keep the Children safe at School, and I'm happiest when they are smiling. I have four grandchildren, myself and Mrs Jones love to spend as much time as possible with them. I used to play golf regularly, but I've injured my back. When I retire, my aim is to get back on the golf course and go sea fishing!

Miss P Bailey - Bursar

My name is Miss Bailey, I have been working at Widmer End School as the Bursar since October 2019 and love it! It's such a warm welcoming school, the staff and children make everyday enjoyable, there is never a dull moment. When I'm not at school I am mostly looking after my little girl Amelia and our two chihuahuas but when I manage to get some free time I head out for a run and go to a yoga class once a week - I also help Mrs Hillier take the running club every week, we have a great time!

Ms V Hespe - Bursar

Mrs C Lenton - Office Manager

I'm Mrs Lenton and I have been the Office Manager at Widmer End School since September 2022, having previously worked in schools since 2018. I have been made to feel very welcome by the children and staff. I do love working here, everyday is different!

In my spare time I love spending time with my family, friends, Harvey dog and 2 naughty horses.

Mrs C Weaver - Office Manager

Hi everyone! I've been at Widmer End School from September '22, having previously been running my own successful administration business from home. My hobbies include netball (playing and umpiring), camping, dog walking, cleaning & organising, gardening, among other things! I am chairwoman for my expanding netball club and have just started studying to become a netball umpiring mentor for South Bucks. I have two awesome children who are studying at Cedar Park School, a sassy little pooch and a very forgiving husband!

Mrs B Watson - EYFS Phase Leader, Reception Teacher

I am so excited to have joined Widmer End School this September as the Early Years Lead and Reception class teacher! I have been teaching for 5 years and I am very passionate about the importance of a positive Early Years foundation for each child at the beginning of their time at school. I used to love school when I was little and my aim is to instil a love of learning within the children at Widmer End too!

My hobbies are going for long walks with my husband and dog, baking delicious cakes and dancing!

Miss G Davis - Year 1 Teacher

I joined Widmer End in September 2022 and am now delighted to be taking on the role of Year 1 class teacher from the Autumn term. This will be my second year of teaching and I am excited to continue my career at Widmer End. I will also be running Quiz club on a Thursday after school with Mrs Oxby for Key Stage 2 Children. I have a degree in Education, PGCE and a Masters in Psychology and have always enjoyed working with children gaining experience in many different settings throughout my degrees. Growing up I did a lot of volunteering work at my local youth club. My main hobbies are dancing, going to the theatre especially musicals, watching movies, and spending time with my friends and family.

Mrs L Van Der Merwe - Year 1, 2 & 3 Phase Leader, Year 2 Teacher
I have been at Widmer End for 12 years working across Key Stage 1 and 2 and am currently in Year 2 with the responsibilities of Key Stage Leader, Reading Lead (including Accelerated Reader), Computing Lead and School Librarian.

Reading is one of my favourite things to do and it always has been. There are books in every room of my house!  Even when I was a girl- a long time ago, I used to love reading.  I even used to read under the covers in bed with a torch.  Reading allows me to stay up to date with new educational trends and allows me to relax too.

I also love teaching Maths and believe that Maths is magic!
No two days at school are the same and hearing the ‘a-ha’ moment when something clicks for a child who has been struggling with their learning is priceless.

I am married and we have two young adults , both of whom attended Widmer End when they were little.  Out of school, I enjoy doing a range of crafts and spending time with my family.  We speak English and Afrikaans at home and have a little Yorkshire terrier called Buddy.

Ms Z Atkins - Year 3 Teacher

I have been a teacher for more than 20 years and have taught in primary schools in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, as well as International Schools in China and Chile. Even though I’ve been settled back in the UK for many years now, my ‘international’ experience has influenced my teaching and I encourage children to look at the world beyond their own community, to see how the lives of others are different to their own. I am passionate about ensuring children are equipped for their future whilst caring about the planet and having empathy for others. I have run many extra-curricular clubs including Eco Warriors, Fairtrade, Globetrotters and languages, to help children realise they can make a difference. As well as History and Geography, my favourite subjects to teach are Maths and Science – all of which can inspire awe and wonder!

I have always loved travelling and have visited every continent - including Antarctica! Now I’m mum to an amazing daughter who’s about to start secondary school, my travels tend to be closer to home. I love walking in the beautiful countryside we have here in Buckinghamshire and exploring other parts of the UK. I enjoy singing, having been a member of staff choirs at previous schools and even performed in a staff production of Mamma Mia.

I am really excited about teaching at Widmer End and looking forward to being part of the school community.

Mrs B Mills - Year 4, 5 & 6 Phase Leader, Year 4 Teacher

I currently have the privilege of being the year 4 class teacher. I have been working at the school for many years in various guises, and actually began my journey with Widmer End as a parent helper back in 2012. 10 years that seem to have just flown by! I am one of the lucky ones that can truly say 'I love my job'. Within my role, I have been fortunate enough to be supported in developing a passion of mine: to teach, learn and support children through accessing the great outdoors. I currently run Eco Warriors, an after school club for children excited and motivated in enjoying, protecting and benefitting from the world around us. The club is always fully subscribed, which shows just how passionate our children are in learning about, and caring for our planet. I am currently completing a qualification so I can develop our whole school Forest schools provision so ALL children can reap the benefits of being outdoors and engaging in practical experiences. I cannot wait to see this provision become embedded throughout Widmer End, in the very near future - watch this space!! Not only am I responsible for developing Forest schools, I am currently Widmer's subject lead on History. I am committed to and passionate about ensuring children receive rich and immersive experiences as they journey through our historical landscapes, developing curiosity and knowledge about our past and begin to develop understandings as to how the past influences our now! Much of what is delivered in Forest schools links  to all areas of the National curriculum, with history providing particularly rich opportunities to explore learning, this means my two key areas of responsibility are very well connected.
On a personal note, I have 3 young children, 2 of whom are still travelling through Widmer End primary school, this means when I am not teaching, I am still surrounded by little people! Having my children at the school in which I teach, it can be hectic at times but equally enables me to understand things from a parent perspective as well as with my teacher hat on. I try to apply my parent hat whenever considering new ideas or requests of families as I really do understand the trials and tribulations of being a full time working parent. Equally, I want my children to have the best academic, social and emotional journey possible, so I am well placed and highly invested in supporting the school to be the best it can be!!
I am an animal lover and am well known amongst the children and staff for having a menagerie of animals at home - I'm still trying to convince Mrs Hillier to allow me to extend my little zoo onto the school grounds!!! I'm not there yet! Even without my school zoo, I feel privileged to work at Widmer End, a little school with a big heart and a place I feel we can all make a difference.

Mrs E Archer-Doran - SCITT Trainee, Year 4

I've been part of the Widmer End CC School community since 2017 when my son started in reception. I quickly became a parent helper and have been an active member of the PTA. I also worked as an MDS up until January 2022 when I became an LSA in year 6. Prior to working at Widmer End CC School I worked as both an ice skating coach, for approximately 13 years, and a gymnastics coach. I attended university and have a degree in Sports Psychology. I still coach gymnastics at Booker Gym Club and recently started running a gymnastics after school club for the children here. I have always been passionate about working with children and aspire to be a teacher myself.
I am married with two children, both attend school here and spend most of my time running them to their various activities. Outside of school I enjoy dancing, gymnastics, ice skating and music.

I have a passion for reading and enjoy sharing different books with the children, especially our DEAR time at the end of every day. Helping to engage children in reading and widening their exposure to books is really important to me.

On a personal note, I am a busy mum of 3 boys and, whilst life can be rather chaotic at times, it’s all good fun! I enjoy exercise, watching films and spending time outside with my boys.
